Giant mussels 6/11/07
The photos represent large sized mussels that have been pecked loose from the upper portions of their rocks by large seagulls. The gulls then drop them ashore in the sand or even into the beach grass. These harvesters do not seem to mind that other gulls make their meals of these mussels before the larger birds come to the table. I have placed a one-foot rule on the tray next to the mussels to show scale.
