Quiet and generally clean. Main concern is an exposed tank that appears to be dripping oil in the dunes adjacent to the beach. From an old homesite.   MORE

There were around 55 people on mile 311. Seventeen of them were cycling. People had come to Tolovana Park Beach in unusually high numbers because of the warm weather, but the beach between Tolovana Park and Arcadia had few visitors and is still practically undiscovered. Many pelicans were flying over the ocean, and we spotted one harbor seal in the surf. There were many Dungeness Crab and sand dollar fragments in the driftline. Mile 311 is pristine and largely litter-free.   MORE

It was nice to have the beach practically to ourselves. The one dog we encountered was under perfect voice control. There was much less debris than we expected after the Big Storm. We will keep an eye on a lot that was being surveyed ( from the beach), with a small cottage on it. Will check to see whether there is a building permit for new construction, and monitor that ( rip rap, drainage, new walkway etc.)   MORE

all in all a pleasant day. Lots of sand washed up and built up all over. Very clean beach, as this was just several days after the SOLV cleanup. Wish it remained that way. Evidence of beachfires in large driftwood piles, but none smoldering.   MORE

actually, quite an improvement over previous 'day after the 4th.' the fireworks ban seems to be working, and the violations are more sporadic every year. Still lots of fireworks debris.   MORE

Will need to take a photo of a riprap structure gone bad. Ocean washed out sand placed between riprap, and some kind of netting to hold plants. Very ugly to look at. Will get address and photos.   MORE
