COMMENTS
SUMMARYMassive dead male sea lion about a quarter of a mile south of the last hill (Brushy Hill, according to the map) on the Umpqua Spit. Close to the foredune. No entanglement; couldn't spot any sign of a bullet wound, although the vultures have pecked enough holes that only an expert eye would be able to tell. Despite cluster of vultures at work, carcass intact and not very smelly, so recent. About half a mile further south, probably on Mile 149, a very small sea lion carcass being feasted on by vultures. About half eaten (front half). Probably a pup, but too much gone to be sure; could be small female.
