COMMENTSFishing Rock State Park is closed due to erosion making the trail very hazardous. I contacted Patti Green with Oregon State Parks for further information to report.
SUMMARYWinter storms have pushed sand up high onto the beach. Most striking was the sand covering the boulders at the north base of Fishing Rock, leaving only a small amount of rocks visible and making walking up to Fishing Rock from the beach on the north side possible. The trail to Fishing Rock is more adequately blocked than last quarter, with rolled wire nailed to prevent access, however, there was a small trail around the wire leading to a new trail that avoids the dangerous trail. Winter seas have washed out softer areas below the trails, old fencing has fallen down onto the boulders below. No word about its status to reopen or archaeological findings. A dead Harbor Seal washed up, but no signs of injury or exterior damage. Sands remarkably free from garbage or other household debris.
