MILE 182 on 7/7/12   -   NIKKI T LOCATION Lane  •  Roosevelt Beach, Ponsler SW, China Creek, Big Creek CONDITIONS Saturday 9:00 AM  •  Sunny  •  60° F  •  Wind: Moderate from the N  •  Tide: -0.78 ft HUMANS People: 7  •  Dogs: 7 ACTIVITIES Walking/running: 7 CONCERNS DISTURBANCES Shorebirds moving in response to humans/dogs VEHICLES Cars/Trucks parking: 5 ACTIV.COMMENTS NOTABLE WILDLIFE There were very few birds and the beach was quite clean, with minimal sea debris in wrack that was only observed in two areas. Even human trash was minimal. DEAD BIRDS Total: 0  •  Species/names: We were simultaneously completing a dead bird survey for COASST, but found no dead birds this date. STRANDED Total: 0 FISH & INVERTS DRIFTLINE NEW DEVELOPMENT MODIFICATIONS NATURAL CHANGES COMMENTS SUMMARY While long familiar with this beach this is the second time I have have surveyed for COASST and the first for CoastWatch. On our first visit, for COASST 06/03/12, we noted a sea worn fiberglass punt near the mouth of Big Creek, toward the North end of mile 182. We did not note specific markings on the punt and failed to contact any of the numbers we have now been provided for reporting. We picked up trash on both occasions; the first trip we filled a large kitchen trash bag, primarily with Styrofoam. this trip we filled the same bag only 1/4 full, again with Styrofoam, and with 5 drink bottles. We saw a couple of live brown pelicans, but little other wildlife. We did not see any people until our return, which was at nearly 11:00 and on the beach close to Washburn Park.
