SOLVE Beach Clean-up Due Sept. 22
The semi-annual beach clean-up directed by SOLVE is coming up on Saturday, Sept. 22, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Of course, the clean-up isn’t restricted to beaches. In all, it will take place at more than 100 sites around the state, including not just beaches but parks and waterways. As SOLVE notes, “Trash travels with the rain from inland roadways and riversides out to the sea. Once cigarette butts, bottles, bags or other plastics reach the ocean they break down into tiny pieces threatening marine wildlife.”
To volunteer for a litter cleanup or watershed restoration project near you (dates and times may vary), and help to improve conditions downstream, go to the SOLVE registration page:click here.
This year the beach clean-up has particular significance for CoastWatch, as we are now partnered with SOLVE in the Oregon Marine Debris Team (together with Surfrider, Washed Ashore and Oregon Sea Grant). We will be conducting clean-ups of tsunami debris together for a long while to come.
If you have questions, contact Morgan Parks, SOLVE's Outreach Coordinator, at his email or (503) 844-9571, ext. 332.
